Feng Shui in the Garden

Balance and harmony are the key words in Feng Shui, which literally means Wind and Water. Too much of one or the other creates unbalance. In gardens it means that there needs to be a balance between the plants, the beds, the lawn, the possible ponds. Feng Shui works with the Five Elements Earth Water, Fire, Metal and Wood in order to have a healthy and balanced environment. As the Garden is very much our extended  environment, it needs our attention and can enhance our lives in all aspects. Green plants, plants with red flowers, soothing shapes and colours all enhance and increase our living environment. Geraniums are particularly beneficial and easy to keep. Peonies are great for enhancing or attracting intimate relationships, preferably in red. Bamboo plants are said to bring general luck.

Spiky plants can induce prickly arguments. Ponds should have a sweeping shape, no sharp corners. It is important not to have your pond to the right of the front door.

It is said to ensure that your partner goes astray! When you decide to have a swimming pool in the garden it needs to be shielded and as far from your house as possible. Make sure the garden is tidy. So many gardens have a corner where rubbish is left and dumped. It is vital to clear the clutter here. A garden, which leaves you feeling balanced and happy, is your aim.
